Coffee has come to be recognized as one of the healthiest beverages around, particularly for weight loss purposes.
Coffee is a popular hot drink made from roasted coffee beans, usually the berries of Coffea species from Central and South America. The seeds from the coffee bean are separated from the green coffee bean, which is produced from the center of the berries, to make a dense, sweet, syrupy liquid: unroasted coffee. Many of the drinks that are traditionally made with instant coffee have little if any caffeine at all, since Coffea sources do not use beans of very high caffeine content. Still, coffee has low calories per serving, even though it is typically flavored with sugar.
Help You Lose Weight
It is a well-known fact that drinking coffee can help you lose weight, but it is not just a case of drinking more of it to lose weight. You do have to drink it at specific times in certain ways to be able to reap its healthy benefits. As a general rule, if you are trying to lose weight, you will want to cut back on the typical American diet, especially foods high in calorie content like pies, cookies, crackers, cakes, ice cream and chocolate bars. You may also want to limit your consumption of fried foods and other foods that are heavy in calories.
The main source of calories in coffee is the simple syrup that is added to the brew. This simple syrup contains about 2 teaspoons of sugar, which is not a lot for a serving of coffee, but does go a long way when it comes to packing on the pounds. However, you should avoid adding any additional milk products to the coffee as they usually contain a lot of calories of their own. You will probably want to avoid milk, but substitute yogurt instead. The yogurt is healthier than the milk, which will help you lose weight as well.
If You Prefer Coffee Without The Sugar
If you prefer coffee without the sugar, try choosing decaffeinated coffee, which will still contain a fair amount of calories but won’t have the artificial sweetener. Look for herbal or natural decaffeinated coffee if you don’t want to deal with the bother of buying an expensive coffee sweetener.
Most health food stores will sell these products. If you are concerned about calories, you can always use Splenda, which is made from sugar and not refined sugar. You may want to read labels to make sure there is no calorie content added to your coffee. There are many brands of single-cup coffee makers that don’t use the sugar and sweetener to give their coffee a sweet taste.
Several Cups Of Coffee Each Day
If you drink several cups of coffee each day, your figure may be much higher than you think. Even if you drink only a little, your body has to process a great deal of that extra milk and cream. Some experts believe that drinking four to five cups of unsweetened coffee each day can have a beneficial effect on weight loss. Although some studies do not prove that unsweetened versions reduce weight, you can cut down on calories by consuming them.
There are other sources of calories that you may not be aware of, including sodas, tea, chocolate bars and other food items that contain more than just caffeine. Many dietitians advice dieters to limit their intake of calories by at least 20 percent to help them lose weight. To figure out how many calories are in a cup of coffee, you need to multiply the amount of water that you drink (not soda) by two. For instance, if you drink two cups of water for an entire cup of coffee, you will know how many calories that will contain.
Most of the time, coffee comes in the form of one of two drinks – a black variety and a decaf variety. When choosing between the two, it’s better to choose the decaf since it contains less sugar than the regular version. However, if you drink both types regularly, then consider purchasing the regular coffee in case you want to enjoy the cream and sugar with your morning latte.
